Agder Energi Nett

Organization and business

Agder Energi has around 1,600 employees, and is one of the biggest utility companies in southern Norway. Our business has a positive impact on the region, thanks to our considerable purchases of local goods and services, as well as the dividends and taxes that we pay to the shareholder municipalities.

Agder Energi’s vision is to be one of the leading companies in the Norwegian renewable energy sector. The Group’s activities comprise the generation, distribution and sale of energy, as well as providing energy related services. Each year, the Group’s 47 wholly-owned and part-owned power stations produce around 7,8 TWh of renewable energy.

Agder Energi Nett owns and operates the transmission and distribution networks in Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder, which comprise 19,600 km of power lines. The company has 178,000 transmission and distribution customers.

Key skills, knowledge and experience

In 2008, Agder Energi and Statkraft jointly established the onshore wind power company Statkraft Agder Energi Vind DA (SAE Vind). SAE Vind aims to develop 1,500 MW by 2020. This is equivalent to 4,000 GWh, the same as electricity supply of 200 000 Norwegian households. This makes SAE Vind Norway’s leading onshore wind power company.

The Energy Management and Trading (EMT) Division is responsible for physical and financial optimization of the group’s production units.

Agder Energi engages in hedging transactions based on its own internal forward price expectations developed by its team of analysts. In addition, the group carries out proprietary trading in Nordic and European power and energy related derivatives.

Agder Energi is an active participant in regional innovation systems and aspires to increase the group’s innovation capacity. The main goal is to develop new profitable business activities in cooperation with the group’s partners. Agder Energi is focusing its R&D activities in four priority areas:

  • Energy efficiency and climate
  • Distributed energy production
  • New business models
  • Business as a result of new cable connections to the EU

Agder Energi works closely with the investment company Agder Energi Venture AS. The group also wants to collaborate with other stakeholders to increase the rate of innovation.

Role in the project

Agder Energi will provide support for the definition of requirements of the system based on their knowledge of the grid infrastructure, support the pilot-testing, and will contribute to the development of business models.
